The Nigerian Actuarial Society on the 2nd of August 2013 met to discuss issues related to the profession in the Nigerian territory.
In attendance were foremost Actuaries like Mr Rotimi Okpaise (FIA), Mr Kingsley Miller (FSA),Mr Alex Aquezeburu (FIA) and other aspiring Actuaries from all works of life.

Held at the Leadway Assurance learning and development centre,Iganmu,issues raised were pertaining to the illumination of the society and ultimately the profession in Nigeria. Led by Alex Aquezeburu (FIA),the society encouraged those writing the exams not to give up and to remain focused even if they experience failures at some point.

According to Mr Okpaise (FIA),An introspective view of where the economy should be has raised the need for seasoned Actuaries and the need can only be met if qualified Actuaries continue to emerge.

The Actuarial profession is one of the highest paying jobs in the world and the professional certifications are mainly offered by the Institute of Actuaries (UK) and the Society of Actuaries (USA). Other countries like Canada and South Africa also offer certifications. However Nigeria doesnt have a chartered body yet.
